In desperation, Putin is pulling out almost all the stops. He sees that his war plan it’s not going the way he envisioned it; he is losing a lot more military people than he ever expected. He is metaphorically speaking going to the homeless shelters, nursing homes, senior citizens facilities, and invalid centers enlisting those people to bolster up his ranks.
To me, that appears to be a move of desperation. On top of the fact that India and China just gave Putin a thumbs down for not supporting his war efforts. I would say the man has his back against the wall in every direction he turns. Once someone like him sees defeat in their future, they are most likely act out of desperation. That is not a good thing.

Putin has threatened the West not to interfere. He also discouraged them from “nuclear blackmail” or using nukes against Russia.
“To those who allow themselves such statements regarding Russia, I want to remind you that our country also has various means of destruction, and for separate components and more modern than those of NATO countries and when the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, to protect Russia and our people, we will certainly use all the means at our disposal,” Putin said.
Is he really that insane that he would hit the red button?? That is a good question only he can answer. If I was a betting man, I would say yes, he absolutely would.
Let us hope in the meantime that Judas comes out of the closet, does his heroic deed and more people in his country show opposition to his leadership. Optimistically these numbers will grow and have a greater impact on his declining popularity which he cherished so much. I said this from the very beginning, I would rather see his defeat come from within than on the battlefield.

Putin has been vilified by the free world for his illegal invasion of Ukraine and justifiably so. Meanwhile, GWB and his president Cheney got away relatively clean with all of their illegal activities. Think about it; there is not that much of a difference between the two scenarios. Neither/all situation were justified.
