How do you even begin to right a wrong of this magnitude …..

In this undated image released by the State Library and Archives of Florida, Lake County Sheriff Willis McCall, far left, and an unidentified man stand next to Walter Irvin, Samuel Shepherd and Charles Greenlee, from left, in Florida.
In 1949 these kids and one of their friends were wrongly convicted for rape. They spent over 70 years in jail.

None of them lived long enough to see themselves be exonerated. You want to talk about reparation; they all deserve about 100 million each.

A decades long chapter of injustice finally closed

Padgett claimed that on the night of July 16, 1949, her car broke down in Groveland. She said the four men stopped and raped her. The men were arrested. Three of them were tortured until police were able to elicit a confession from two of them. Thomas, who managed to escape custody, was killed after a manhunt. Greenlee was sentenced to life in prison.

From the onset, because of the Jim Crow mentality at the time, even though there was little to no evidence, they were convicted.

What was Jim Crow – Jim Crow Museum – Ferris State University › jimcrow › what

Jim Crow was more than a series of rigid anti-black laws. It was a way of life. Under Jim Crow, African Americans were relegated to the status of second class …

It can almost be said that the black people had no rights whatsoever. What a disgrace.

How many way can the authorities say they are sorry and in how many way can these families be compensated???
