He was demoted from chief petty officer to a 1st class petty officer following his conviction. President Trump this month restored Gallagher’s rank and ordered that the Navy halt its internal review of his actions.

People have to understand something about combat and the combatants. In the heat of battle, adrenaline is pumping very hard in the heat of the moment, and people do things they would not ordinarily do under different circumstance.
With all of the atrocities the enemy has perpetrated against the Americans through the years, this has little to no significance.
I say Eddy Gallagher is an American hero.
Many of our adversaries in combat know that the USA fights by THE RULES, and they take advantage of it. All is fair in love and war. The only rules that should apply, do not lose at any cost. Fear and respect go hand in hand.
