Academy Award-winning filmmaker Quentin Tarantino for decades has been hearing about Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein’s alleged sexual abuse, and regrets not taking the accusations more seriously, he told The New York Times in an interview published Thursday.
“I knew enough to do more than I did,” Tarantino told the paper. “There was more to it than just the normal rumors, the normal gossip. It wasn’t secondhand. I knew he did a couple of these things.”
“I wish I had taken responsibility for what I heard,” he added.
I will give Tarantino one thing; he accepts responsibility for his inaction. It does not make the situation any better, but at least we have one celeb that is truthful.
This is the major problem society has in general. When there is an unpleasant situation to address, the majority of people want to hide under a rock and pretend it never happened or doesn’t exist. They do not want to THE ONE who drops the dime; it would not do their career or popularity any good.
Many times in our lives we have to put the right thing to do before what the popular thing to do. It takes a stronger person to stand up for what is right than to cower in a corner like a spineless coward and say nothing. If we get only one thing out of standing up; self-satisfaction, that may be our only reward; BUT that is enough.
If many of these cowards, and there are 1,000’s of them, that protected Wineburger and people like him, would have expose them in the beginning, that would prevent many such incidents from happening.
Take a good look at all of the incidents like Penn State, with the sicko Sandusky. If all of the cowards that knew about his perverted activities would have spoken up sooner, the head count of victims would have diminished drastically. There are 1,000’s of such cases that would have had a different ending, if only someone would have spoken up.
SOOOO; should the cover-up people be partially responsible for clamming up? I would say so. Is the get away driver as responsible for the bank robbery as the guy with the gun in his hand. Absolutely.
FOLKS; don’t be a sheep, be the Shepard. Lead the flock, don’t follow.
Have some back-bone. If you see or know of any irregular or illegal activities going on, let the proper authorities know. At least you will be able to look in the mirror and be proud of who is looking back at you.
This applies to so many different issues in our live. Especially today with terrorism knocking at our door, gang activity, knowledge of criminal activities, child abuse; the list is endless.
If the victims had someone that cared enough about them and spoke up, many crimes would be greatly reduced.
