Chelsea Manning to remain in Army, receive health care benefits after prison release

Chelsea, then Bradley Manning, was granted clemency in the final days of the Obama administration. She/he thanked Obama last Tuesday in her first statement since being granted clemency.

“For the first time, I can see a future for myself as Chelsea,” she said in the statement. “I can imagine surviving and living as the person who I am and can finally be in the outside world. Freedom used to be something that I dreamed of but never allowed myself to fully imagine.”

Chelsea was sentenced to 35-year sentence at Fort Leavenworth, when she/he was Bradley, for leaking 700,000 secret military information and videos to Wikileaks. She/he was an intelligence analyst at the time.

It appears that our VERY PC, sympathetic to THE CAUSE, unpatriotic president, didn’t see anything wrong in what this traitor did and gave her permanent furlough before he got his hat.

During his time in office, the Do-Gooder president released a whopping 1,715 people from prisons.

This means he disagrees with the findings of the courts of the land and the juries that put these people in the slams for crimes they committed against society.  Obama was not the first or only president to disrespect the findings of the courts, he just did it better than any one before him.

I guess Bradley had a hard time figuring where his loyalties lie with his country, he also has a hard time figuring what sex he/she was.

Our benevolent government found it in all of their generosity (taxpayers expense) to pay for Manning’s food, board and lodging for 7 years while in the slams; BUT, the Big But, we the people of the USA paid for this dude/dudess to have his plumbing rearranged. Whoever said crime does not pay??

I know the government does not have surgeons of the caliber sitting around waiting to do a plumbing job. They had to be either flown into the slams or the prisoner had to be flown out to get the operations. Operations like that are not a one time slice and dice either. That sure had to cost a pretty buck.

Holy Toledo – get out the shopping bags.

It baffles the hell out of me that presidents and governors have to authority to release prisoners, some of whom are still a threat to society, back into the public only to offend again.

National Statistics on Recidivism

Bureau of Justice Statistics studies have found high rates of recidivism among released prisoners. One study tracked 404,638 prisoners in 30 states after their release from prison in 2005.[1] The researchers found that:

  • Within three years of release, about two-thirds (67.8 percent) of released prisoners were rearrested.
  • Within five years of release, about three-quarters (76.6 percent) of released prisoners were rearrested.
  • Of those prisoners who were rearrested, more than half (56.7 percent) were arrested by the end of the first year.
  • Property offenders were the most likely to be rearrested, with 82.1 percent of released property offenders arrested for a new crime compared with 76.9 percent of drug offenders, 73.6 percent of public order offenders and 71.3 percent of violent offenders.

This study was done back in 2005; I will assume that the rate recidivism today is much higher.

It would not surprise me, before it is all over, the government may even consider throwing a wedding for Manning and paying for the reception and honeymoon with taxpayers funds. WHY NOT!!
