Politically-charged speeches at SAG Awards take aim at Trump
Politics took center stage at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night as award winners used the spotlight to slam President Donald Trump’s halting of immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim nations.
The most blistering speech of the night came from David Harbour, one of the stars of the Netflix hit “Stranger Things.” Harbour was on stage to accept best ensemble in a TV drama series.
“It’s a call to arms from our fellow craftsmen and women to go deeper and through our art to battle against fear, self-centeredness and exclusivity of our predominantly narcissistic culture and through our craft to cultivate a more empathetic and understanding society by revealing intimate truths that serve as a forceful reminder to folks that, when they feel broken and afraid and tired, they are not alone.”
It’s a call to arms? That can sound pretty threatening if taken the wrong way by some nut case. We all know there are 1,000’s of them out there. It may even fall into the same category as IT wanting to blow up the White House if misconstrued by the wrong person.
Harbour’s well -rehearsed speech sounded like something that would come out of Shakespear. He may even get the hypocrites award for it.
As far as I know, we haven’t seen any of THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE open the front doors of their castles and invite a few dozen of the illegal immigrants in for an indefinite stay. In my opinion, except for all but a very small percentage of the instigators, it is all lip service and a reason to get their nose in front of a camera.
REAL sympathizers don’t have to beat their chests for attention; they should go out quietly, gather up a few dozen of these unfortunate people and put them up for a few years.
There is one very big fact/issue that the dissenters are missing. All of the moves that PDT is making are for the safety, security and long-range well-being for our country. They try to make this look like PDT is doing these things for his personal benefit. Absolutely WRONG.
I think it is a disgrace that THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE use these platforms to vent their political positions. These are supposed to be award shows; not execution chambers. They fall right in line with the fools on Saturday Night Live.
Do what you do best BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE and act because it is only an act!!
