Expert to Rio athletes: ‘Don’t put your head under water’
Swim- dive – row your boat but don’t put your head under water????? This is the warning that heath officials in Rio have sent out to swimmer, divers and boating contestants as a severe health warning.
Does that even begin to make any sense, telling swimmers not to put their heads under water?????
I am very anxious to see how the Rio Olympics turns out with all of the conflicts even before the torch is lit. So far it looks like a disaster. Is it really worth all of the expenses, potential safety issues and health risks??? Not as far as far as I am concerned.
The first results of the study published over a year ago showed viral levels at up to 1.7 million times what would be considered worrisome in the United States or Europe. At those concentrations, swimmers and athletes who ingest just three teaspoons of water are almost certain to be infected with viruses that can cause stomach and respiratory illnesses and more rarely heart and brain inflammation — although whether they actually fall ill depends on a series of factors including the strength of the individual’s immune system.
Anyone that participates in the games must have rocks in their head. Even the sand on their beaches is highly contaminated. Not to mention Zika virus to deal with.
If for no other reason not to hold the games in Rio, it has an astronomical crime rate. It is referred to in many circles as the murder capital of the world.
It is not uncommon to see kids 10 years old and up, maybe younger, walking the streets with weapons just looking for a reason to kill someone to do the macho thing.

The most significant health problem plaguing the Rio games are the very high levels of bacteria and potentially deadly agents floating around in the waterways. Much of their raw sewage from the cities and ships in the harbors are dump their waste, human and otherwise directly into the waterways.
Rio has had 10 years to make critical corrections and get ready for the games but as we can see, combined with corruption and poor management, two days before they still are not ready.
I would think (you know the common-sense thing again) a city as poor as Rio is, it should have been nixed from even being considered for hosting the games.
A country that is stone broke, worse off than the USA is in some places. It’s people are living in cardboard boxes, eating out of landfills but their government officials, in all of their wisdom, spent the equivalent of 12 billion dollars to get their city and country in order for that games. With 2 days before the torch is lit, are still a long way from the finish lines.
Viewed from above, Rio’s sewage problem is as starkly visible as on the spreadsheets of the AP analysis: Rivers are tar-black; the lagoons near the Olympic Park bloom with fluorescent green algae that thrives amid sewage; fishermen’s wooden boats sink into thick sludge in the Guanabara Bay; surfers paddle amid a giant brown stain that contrasts with the azure of the surrounding waters. They should not be eating the fish coming from those waters.
These are just a few of the outstanding problems the games have facing them.
Two posts I did a while back:
It is estimated, considering all the Olympics combined in our modern times, the dollar amount to host the Olympics has cost the hosting governments well over budget by 179%.
Between the shoddy workmanship – scheduling problems – kickbacks – corruption – poor planning, it is a gold mine for some of the country’s well-connected people to get even wealthier.
Using this good old common-sense thing once again. Wouldn’t it be better served if all of the combined monies spent by all countries on the Olympics were put to better use by getting this world that is in turmoil back in order? I would think so.
It is a catch 22. If the money was not pissed away on the Olympic Games, it would be misappropriate some other way.
I still say it is time to blow out the flame for good. Look around; it’s intended purpose of uniting , all countries of the world has failed miserably.
