Talk about an expensive trip.
Skyrocketing inflation: Russia now charging NASA $70 million per seat to fly US astronauts:
So you thought that taxi rates in the Big Apple were out of sight; well take a look at what the Ruskies are clipping their USA comrades for a ride into outer space.
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – NASA is paying $424 million more to Russia to get U.S. astronauts into space, and the agency’s leader is blaming Congress for the extra expense.
NASA announced its latest contract with the Russian Space Agency on Tuesday. The $424 million represents flights to and from the International Space Station aboard Russian Soyuz spacecraft, as well as training, for six astronauts in 2016 and the first half of 2017. That’s $70.6 million per seat — well above the previous price tag of about $65 million.
Now Charles Bolden, honcho of NASA is urging full funding from the Obama administration’s 2014 budget request of $821 million in seed money for the commercial crew program. That certainly buys a lot of seed, and the cow manure to go with it.
I keep asking the same question; why? What has the USA accomplished in outer space other than bragging rights and a few moon rocks?
If anyone believes that “someday” earthlings are going to inhabit other planets; they are as wakcy as the cryogenics groupies that have their heads cut off because of an illness, frozen and stored in a liquid gas and hope for a cure in 100 years when a team of doctors will sew their heads back onto a healthy body. Hellooooooooooooo!
I am positive that all of the foolishly spent money could go for a better cause than Vodka money for the guys across the pond.
For that kind of mulla a person could stay at the Royal Penthouse suite in Geneva, the most expensive hotel room in the world for $65,000 per night for 3 years; breakfast is NOT included
