I promise, maybe

Here we go again. Another year has gone by and for some of us it probably ended up with the same personal problems we had when the year started.

Why even bother making New Year’s resolutions, we never keep them.

Fat people want to be skinny, skinny people want to build up muscles, light skinned people want sun tans, dark skinned people bleach their skin. No one is ever satisfied.

New Year’s resolutions usually last about 2 weeks at the tops; most end the first week; some end the same day. Let’s face it human beings are weak and lazy and have a hard time with the “D” word; discipline. It is a rare exception that anyone ever keeps a New Year’s resolution.

The people that are most successful in keeping their promises to themselves are the ones that have found their back against a wall one day and finally figure out that they better make a change in their lives or they are going down the tubes. They make up their mind, set their sights on a goal using the “D:” word, make the necessary changes and follow through with them. They do not need a special day like New Year’s Day to motivate themselves.

Smokers are probably the some of the saddest cases  on the planet when it comes to overcoming an addiction. I saw a guy smoking through a tracheotomy once. He was holing the cigarette up to his throat and sucking his life away.  Very sad. They are the ones that tell you about four times a week that they are going to quit smoking. They really don’t want to quit, I guess they just make themselves feel better saying it.

Anyone that has a life threatening addiction that does not have the backbone to make a change in their life to overcome something that is killing them; they really don’t want to change or have no concept of what the “D” word means.

I found it to be pretty simple. We have one of two choices in everything we do in life. Either you hold your finger in the flame of a candle and burn the shit out of it or pull it out and don’t burn it. Either you change what is slowly killing you by stopping or keep it up and eventually kill yourself.

Choice number two is the best and will most probably, if not save your life, certainly make you feel proud of yourself a lot better physically and mentally.

If you decide that choice number one is for you, shut up, quit complaining, quit saying you’re gonna quit/change and keep adding  more nails to your coffin.

Either hold your finger in the flame and burn it or pull it out and save your life. Sounds pretty simple. Make your New Year’s resolution by exercising the “D” word instead of making promises you have no intention of keep.

Tonight, New Year’s Eve is the last night in 2011 you “D” word users will have to smoke your little asses off, drink and eat like a pig until you explode before you can make yourself very proud, live a lot longer and healthier . Do it for your kids if nothing else!!

Happy 2012 to everyone and bottoms up.
